3 get life imprisonment for murder of sub-inspector in Abohar

In a significant verdict, the Additional Sessions Judge of Fazilka, Ajit Pal Singh, has sentenced 3 individuals to life imprisonment for the murder of Gurvinder Singh, a sub-inspector in the Punjab Police. The case dates back to June 2020 when Singh was shot dead by car-borne assailants in his neighbourhood in Basant Nagar near Sitto Gunno Road.

Namandeep Godara, Vikramjit, and Vijay Lakshmi were found guilty under various sections of the IPC and Arms Act. They were sentenced to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000 each. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional two-year imprisonment. Additionally, they received three years’ rigorous imprisonment under Section 201 of the IPC and five years’ rigorous imprisonment under Section 25 of the Arms Act, with fines of Rs 10,000 each.

A fourth accused, Naresh Kumar, was sentenced to five years’ rigorous imprisonment under Section 25 of the Arms Act, with a fine of Rs 10,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional one-year imprisonment.

This verdict brings justice to the family of the deceased and serves as a deterrent to potential perpetrators. OC
