A total of 3,054 of 3,860 cumulative claims under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana have been settled by banks and insurance agencies in Punjab till February 19 this year, said Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary in reply to a query by Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal in the Lok Sabha.

Punjab has a total of 92,89,500 enrolments under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), which is an accident insurance scheme offering death and disability cover.

No Chinese string production in Punjab

Punjab has no unit manufacturing Chinese string for kite flying, said the Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh replying to a query by the Congress Member of Parliament, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, during the Lok Sabha proceedings.

The Union Minister told the lower House of Parliament that the state has only two industries manufacturing synthetic fibre and none of the two was supplying their products to any entity involved in manufacturing Chinese string.
