The Counter Intelligence (CI), Bathinda, has arrested a drug smuggler and seized 210 bags (4,100 kg) of poppy husk being smuggled in a container-truck from Madhya Pradesh, said Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav here on Monday.

The DGP said the preliminary investigation indicated that the consignment was supposed to be delivered in Jalandhar, Moga and Ferozepur districts. “Our teams are working tirelessly to uncover the entire network, including forward and backward linkages,” he added.

The arrested drug smuggler has been identified as truck driver Sandeep Singh, alias Kaka, a resident of Raipur Arian village in Nakodar, Jalandhar. The police have also impounded the container-truck (NL 01AB 0377).
