The government has released Rs 4.21-crore grant for 15 old-age homes across the state for the financial year 2024-25.

Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr Baljit Kaur said besides free accommodation, clothes, food and other essentials were also provided to the elderly at these old-age homes. These institutes were run by the department in collaboration with various non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

The minister said the department was also constructing old-age homes in Barnala and Mansa districts. Each of these homes would have the capacity to accommodate 75 persons. The construction of these homes would cost around Rs 17.34 crore.
