Four police officials, including an assistant sub-inspector, posted at the Vairoke police station in Fazilka district were suspended on Wednesday for dereliction of duty as a woman arrested under the NDPS Act managed to escape from the police lock-up.

Sources said two women, identified as Rekha Rani, alias Lekhi, and Mano Bai, were arrested flowing the seizure of 35 gm of heroin from them on March 31. Both were lodged at the Vairoke police station in Fazilka district. Rekha escaped from police custody the same day by pretending the need to use the washroom.

She was booked under Section 262 of the BNS and a search launched. She was later rearrested, claimed Jalalabad DSP Jatinder Singh.
