The Punjab Police, in a joint operation with the Border Security Force, thwarted a bid to disturb law and order by seizing four weapons pushed by Pakistan-based smugglers into the Indian territory near Pul Moran border outpost along the International Border here today.

An AK-56 rifle with magazine and five bullets, an AK-47 rifle with a magazine and nine rounds, a .303 gun with magazine and seven rounds and a .30 China-made pistol with magazine were recovered from the spot.

SSP (Amritsar rural) Dhruv Dahiya said the police got an input that Pakistan-based smugglers had hidden weapons under the earth around 10 metres inside the border near Dhanoe Kalan village, close to the Pul Moran border outpost. The weapons were meant to foment trouble in the country. The information was shared with BSF authorities and a search operation was launched, leading to the seizure.

The SSP said following a preliminary probe, a case had been registered against Pakistan-based smuggler Bilal under the passport, foreigners and arms Acts. “Bilal has links with Pakistan-based hardliners and we are identifying their Indian accomplices who were to retrieve the weapon consignments,” said the SSP.
