A five-year-old girl died as she was run over by her school bus at her school in Adampur in this district on Monday morning.

Kirat, a resident of Udesiyan village in Alawalpur, was getting down from the bus when the mishap occurred.

According to eyewitnesses, the girl was crushed under the rear wheel of the bus.

The bus driver fled the spot.

The school is situated near the highway, which the irate relatives of the deceased and locals blocked. The Adampur police reached the spot and pacified them.

The body has been sent for post-mortem.

The Adampur SHO said action would follow against those responsible for the mishap.
