To create awareness on the prevention of rabies, the Spreading Smiles People’s Foundation Society organised a camp at a hospital run by the Department of Animal Husbandry in Panjkosi village.

It was organised under the guidance of Dr Mandeep Singh. Youth Congress chief Atinderpal Singh Tinna was the chief guest at the event, and chief convener of the society Priya Somani was key speaker.

In all, 50 stray and domesticated dogs were vaccinated.

Somani from the Khalsa College of Veterinary Sciences, Amritsar, said in the wake of a spike in the incidents of stray dog bites, the society had launched the campaign to tackle stray and pet dogs.

The chief guest also acknowledged the problem of stray dogs in the area. Citing an incident which happened last month, she said a child was mowed to death by dogs in Sherewala village. Stray dogs roamed around animal cremation grounds, and targeted children and elderly, he said.
