The Punjab Education Department is all set to recruit 2,000 physical training instructors (PTIs) and 500 lecturers for overcoming the shortage of teaching staff in government schools. Education Minister Harjot Bains said the posts would be advertised soon.

The PTIs are being employed for primary schools. There are around 12,880 government primary schools in the state.

The department was also in the process of issuing appointment letters to the ETT teachers who have been already recruited. On the direction of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the selection list of the ETT teachers had been revised.

Democratic Teachers’ Front (DTF) state president Vikram Dev Singh said the recruitment of 5,994 ETT teachers was started in 2022, but had not been completed so far. About 2,600 appointment letters were first issued by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
