BSF personnel at the boom barrier leading to the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at the Kartarpur corridor were flummoxed when Amit Narang failed to answer their questions. The ice was finally broken when Narang, using sign language, managed to convince officers that he was deaf and dumb.

Narang was part of a 52-strong group sent to the Kartarpur shrine by a charitable organisation, Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust, promoted by Dubai-based businessman Surinder Pal Singh Oberoi.

The businessman has financed the trip of underprivileged people, who arrived at the ICP on Sunday morning. Their bus was flagged off at 3 am from outside Dukhniwaran Sahib in Patiala. — TNS
