Chandigarh, January 28
To boost the wood-based industry, the state will set up a dedicated plywood park between Bassi Kasson and Bassi Maroof villages in Hoshiarpur, which will bring about Rs 100 crore investment. This would not only provide employment to the local youth, but also increase their productivity, said Industries Minister Sunder Sham Arora. He said the project would be driven by a special purpose vehicle (SPV) and 30 members of the All India Plywood Manufacturers Association have registered a company in the name and style of the Hoshiarpur Wood Park Pvt Ltd, Hoshiarpur, under the Companies Act, 2013 on October 18, 2018 for implementation of the project.
The SPV has purchased 58.85 acres between Bassi Kasson and Bassi Maroof villages on its own.
The proposed park will have units comprising plyboard factories, saw mills and chippers. It will help in expansion of the industry and enable farmers to get better realisation of their produce.
