Hundreds of NRIs and their families converged here today hoping to get their grievances addressed during “Punjab NRIs Milni” organised by the state government at Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University.

Almost 150 NRIs belonging to various districts listed their grievances, many of which were resolved on the spot.

Cabinet Minister for NRI Affairs Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, who was here to preside over the meet, listened to the grievances and passed instructions to the officials concerned. Dhaliwal was joined by AAP MLAs Rajnish Kumar Dahiya, Ranbir Singh Bhullar and Fauja Singh Sarari, Chief Secretary, NRI Affairs, Dalip Kumar, KP Brar, Secretary, NRI Affairs, Rajesh Dhiman, DC, besides other senior officials.

Dhaliwal said till date no state government had listened to the problems of the NRIs. Last year, the government had received 605 complaints, of which 597 cases had been resolved. “Today, we have received 55 complaints regarding which I have given instructions to officials and soon these will also be resolved,” he said.
