Abohar, December 13
The police today afternoon seized 64-kg of poppy husk that was being smuggled from Rajasthan to Punjab. They intercepted four persons on the Hanumangarh-Abohar bypass in Sriganganagar, however, only one of them was arrested.
The Sadar police team led by SI Alka Bishnoi intercepted them near Chak 5-ML village. Three of them boarded a Swift Dzire car and fled, leaving behind four bags, a bike and their accomplice Vikramjit Singh Ravi of Chak Balochan Mahalam village in Jalalabad, who was held.
Ravi indentified his accomplices as his brother Gurpreet Singh Monu, Sonu Manjit Singh of Chak Balochan and Tinku Bunty of Kattianwali village in Fazilka.
All four were booked under the NDPS Act, the SI said. Preliminary investigation reportedly indicated they had arranged the contraband from a supplier near a hotel in Jodhpur’s Baam segment. — OC
