A 65-year-old farmer, Jaswinder Singh of Nadampur village in Bhawanigarh, allegedly died by suicide by consuming some poisonous substance on Tuesday.

Jaswinder, who owned two acres of land, was under debt and was suffering from depression.

Jodha Singh of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan) sought financial assistance for the bereaved family and a government job for the son of Jaswinder.
