Some municipal councillors on Monday lodged a symbolic protest by locking both entrances of the Municipal Council building here, alleging the president and executive officer were not getting their works executed. The police, however, reached immediately and opened the side gate.

Avtar Singh, a municipal councillor, said, “People approach us with complaints regarding their works. We have met officials of the district administration and the MC, but nobody seems to be bothered. We will now chalk out a fresh course of action and may even stage a protest outside the district administrative complex.”

Another councillor Parminder Singh said, “We were elected by the public and had supported the AAP candidate for the post of president almost six months ago. However, even the works for which orders were issued some time ago have not yet started. This is solely because of the MC president.”

Vinaypal Raju, husband of senior vice-president Preet Jain, said, “The EO and MC president were not present when we locked the main entrance. A large number of people are in the grip of dengue and chikungunya. Two MCs have even recently lost their spouses due to suspected dengue.”
