Seven rocket shells were found abandoned near a garbage dump along the Patiala-Rajpura road on Monday. The shells, however, did not contain any explosive material, the police said. A probe has been initiated into the matter.

The shells were first spotted by some residents who then informed the police. Patiala Range DIG Mandeep Singh Sidhu said the shells were kept in a bag. Sources said these might have been left there by some scrap dealer.

A bomb-disposal squad and anti-sabotage teams visited the spot. “During a preliminary inspection, no explosive material was found in the shells. The Army authorities will be consulted to know more about the shells,” said Patiala SSP Nanak Singh.
