As many as 99 farm fire events were reported in the state on Wednesday. While the state machinery remained busy in the panchayat elections, the state witnessed yet another spike in farm fires with 272 stubble residue burning cases reported across the state in the past two days.

The state had witnessed 123 farm fires on October 10, 143 on October 11, and 177, 162, 68 and173 on October 12, 13, 14 and 15, respectively.

Tarn Taran with 35 incidents topped the districts with most number of farm fires, followed by Amritsar (25) and Ferozepur (16). Sangrur reported 10 paddy residue burning incidents.
