Sangrur, November 30

A day after the Punjab State SC Commission pulled up the Lehra police for delayed investigation, the police have arrested two accused in a murder case at Chulad Kalan village. The case pertains to Dalit Kala Singh (35), whose body was recovered from a canal on November 27 near Chandpura village after he had gone missing on November 22.

“We have arrested Golo Kaur, wife of the deceased, and her paramour Pawan Kumar, who took Kala Singh with him. Pawan drank liquor with the deceased, then murdered him and threw his body in the canal,” said Sangrur SSP Sandeep Garg.

On Friday, a team of Punjab State SC commission led by its member Poonam Kangra had visited Chulad Kalan village and met the family of the deceased. The commission had expressed dissatisfaction over the working of the Lehra police and summoned DSP Buta Singh Gill with a detailed report at hisChandigarh office on December 5. It also directed the police to ensure the arrest of all accused.

“We have collected all required evidence,” said Buta Singh, DSP, Moonak.
