AAP workers, led by local MLA Lakhvir Rai, organised a protest against the Agnipath scheme and disrupted the traffic on the Sirhind-Chandigarh road. They also raised slogans against the Centre.

Addressing the media, MLA and senior leader Gursatinder Singh Jallah said the Centre had always taken anti-people decisions whether it be three farm laws or this scheme.

He said the scheme was harsh for the brave youth who wanted to serve the nation by joining the Army. AAP leaders said with neighbours like China and Pakistan, the Centre should strengthen the hands of the Army by giving a chance to youth, instead of hiring them for four years.

Later, they burnt the Centre’s effigy and demanded rollback of the scheme. — TNS
