Moga SSP Dharuman H Nimbale terminated Sub-Inspector Karamjit Singh from the service after two criminal cases of abetment to suicide were registered against him.

The dismissed cop, who has served as an SHO at various police stations in the district, was also allegedly corrupt, said a senior police officer. The Moga police on August 25, had registered an FIR against Karamjit and three other cops — ASI Jaswant Singh, constable Pawan Kumar and a woman cop — under Section 342 of the IPC.

It was alleged that they detained a couple under illegal custody for four days and later registered a case of abetment to suicide against them. The elderly couple was identified as Shinda Singh and his wife Paramjit Kaur, residents of Rania village. On August 20, the HC had directed the SSP to register a case against the alleged accused. Earlier, the HC had directed the District and Sessions Judge of Moga to conduct an inquiry into the incident. The judge had found the cops guilty, following which the case was registered.
