The Punjab Agro plant in Alamgarh village here has opened a state-of-the-art nursery to promote the growing of vegetables in order to provide relief to the farmers who have raised their concerns over the problem of pest infestation on narma cotton and fruit crops. The growers can now choose to grow vegetables as the nursery will provide high-quality seedlings to them to ensure better crop yield and reduction in losses.

Fazilka Deputy Commissioner Dr Senu Duggal, who visited the Punjab Agro plant today, said concerted efforts were being made to diversify agriculture and increase the farmers’ income. Encouraging farmers to grow vegetables was a key part of this strategy, she added.

DC Duggal further said the nursery would play a crucial role in providing the farmers with disease-free and high-quality seedlings, which would lead to better crop yield.

The nursery is equipped with modern facilities, including an environment with controlled temperature and humidity, to ensure optimal growing conditions for the seedlings. This will result in higher germination rates and healthier plants and reduced losses.

Subhash Choudhary, plant head, Punjab Agro, said the farmers could avail themselves of the facility at minimal rates. The farmers would also be provided with seedlings for the early and late sowing, he added. Officials of Punjab Agro have invited farmers to familiarise them with the initiative to revolutionise vegetable cultivation in the region that will lead to increased productivity and income of the growers.
