Mariyappan was last seen on the evening of August 21 after completing his duty. He was expected to report for duty on August 22 but failed to do so, prompting the military to initiate a search. On Sunday, following reports of foul odour, military officials found Mariyappan’s body hanging in a dilapidated quarter. The police sources said the Forensic Science Laboratory team reached the spot and took samples to rule out any foul play.
