A purported social media post of Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh “condemning” the removal of Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh surfaced on Thursday. However, the Akal Takht secretariat did not verify the post.

“Its authenticity is yet to be ascertained. There is still no official communication from Jathedar Sahib on the issue. We have been unable to contact him,” an Akal Takht secretariat official said. The Akal Takht Jathedar is currently in the UK on a private visit.

In the post that appeared on the Facebook account —‘Singh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh ji’ —the Jathedar purportedly condemned the SGPC move, calling it “unjustified” as it “dented the authority and significance of the Takht Jathedars”.

“A media trial was conducted against Singh Sahib (Giani Harpreet Singh) in an 18-year-old domestic dispute case. Being the Jathedar of the Akal Takht, I had already registered my dissent with the SGPC over setting up an inquiry panel against him. If required, only the Akal Takht Jathedar could conduct an inquiry against the Jathedar,” the post stated.
