Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Monday criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for not offering a direct apology for the attack on the Golden Temple and the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

The criticism comes in response to Rahul’s statements at Brown University in the US.

“Rahul Gandhi must answer why his party still shields and rewards those responsible for the Sikh genocide,” said Sukhbir. “He was a minor then, but he has been an adult for decades. Why does he still refuse to acknowledge the truth?” he added.

Harsimrat also condemned Rahul’s stance, calling it dismissive. “Instead of apologising, he made it seem like his visits to Darbar Sahib absolved him and his party of crimes. Our shrines are open to all but they are not political tools to erase historical wrongdoings,” she said. The MP said Rahul should oust leaders, who were involved in the violence, from the party.
