Alka Awasthi to be honoured with NSS award for outstanding social work by President Murmu

The award will be presented by President Droupadi Murmu during a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on October 6

Alka Awasthi, serving at a 100 per cent export-oriented pharmaceutical unit in Sriganganagar has been invited to receive the prestigious President Award for her outstanding social work during her college life under the National Service Scheme (NSS). The award will be presented by President Droupadi Murmu during a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on October 6.

Her father, Kirti Kumar Awasthi, runs a grocery store at Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh while her mother, Neera Awasthi, is a homemaker. Alka completed her primary education in local schools in Shahjahanpur. During her school days, she actively participated in the care and service of stray cows, for which the Shahjahanpur Municipal Corporation awarded her a special commendation letter.

Pursuing higher education at Lovely Professional University in Jalandhar, Alka began actively participating in NSS. She contributed significantly to multiple schemes initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

She planted around 1,200 saplings and nurtured them. As part of a major NSS activity, Alka, along with other volunteers, participated in a women’s hygiene campaign where they created a 300m long chain of sanitary pads. This unique initiative earned a place in the Guinness World Records. Additionally, on January 26, 2023, she showcased her leadership skills by participating in the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi on behalf of NSS.

Alka said, “This award is an important milestone in my journey of social service, but I want to go much further. Social service is an integral part of my life. This honour will provide me with even more energy.”

The head of the unit where Alka is serving, Rajesh Jain, said, “This award will not only be a matter of pride for Alka but also a source of inspiration for other youth. During her tenure at the company, Alka has fulfilled her responsibilities with complete dedication.”
