Veteran BJP leader Lakshmi Kanta Chawla, who was a Cabinet minister in the Badal government, was today elected chief of the Durgiana committee.

She said, “I had vowed to fight the the panel election on the day when members said a woman could not head a religious body as per the norms of the Sanatan Dharma.”

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
