As part of the ongoing agitation by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha against the farm laws, temporary rooms have been arranged for protesters near the toll points on the Sriganganagar-Padampur road.

A dispute had erupted over the construction of rooms, which was resolved this afternoon after a meeting with the administration.

Gramin Mazdoor Kisan Samiti convener Ranjit Singh Raju said in view of extreme heat and inclement weather, a room was arranged at the Chak 18-BB toll plaza.

A week ago, farmers had started stacking material to construct a room near the toll point office at Chak 9-A. On receiving information, administration officials stopped the construction. The samiti, however, decided to start construction today.

A large number of police personnel were deployed at Chak 9-A village early this morning. As a large number of farmers assembled at the scene, SDM Ummed Singh Ratnu and other officials too arrived there.

The matter was resolved after two-hour talks. The farmers dropped the construction plan after the toll barrier contractor agreed to vacate the generator room for farmers temporarily. — OC
