The Faridkot Sadar police have identified the accused as Nirvair Singh, a resident of Toot village in Ferozepur district, presently serving with the 77 Armed Regiment in Nabha. A police team has been dispatched to arrest him.

The firing occurred during a night navigation exercise conducted by the 193 Medium Regiment in the general areas of Golewala, Beguwala and Rajuwala in Faridkot.

According to a complaint filed by a Colonel-rank officer, two jawans —Naik Gurjeet Singh and Naik Manpreet Singh — spotted a suspicious vehicle and moved to investigate it. The vehicle sped from the place, and shortly afterwards, a man, armed with a pistol, fired several rounds at them, and took away their car keys and fled from the spot.
