SSP Dhruman H Nimbale said the accused, then a Head Constable, Kuldeep Singh, verified wrong antecedents to issue a good character certificate of the said gangster, which allowed him to get a passport, due to which Daala managed to flee to Canada.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the gangster had applied for issuance of passport at the Regional Passport Office in Jalandhar in 2017. The police verification of it was marked to the Ajitwal police station in the district. Kuldeep was then posted at the police station and issued a good character certificate to Daala. — TNS
