Fatehgarh Sahib, November 21

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh has made an appeal to the Sikh sangat to shun showoff during wedding and bhog ceremonies and opt for simplicity as per maryada. He said this would help curb suicides as people usually borrow heavy amounts for such purposes and when they were unable to repay, they commit suicide.

He was talking to mediapersons at Panjoli Kalan village today, where he attended a function pertaining to mass marriages.

He urged the state government and the SGPC to make arrangements for the transportation of devotees from Dera Baba Nank to Indian ICP, which is approximately 2 km away as the pilgrim have to cover this distance on foot.

He appealed to Union Government to take up the issue of waiving the condition of passport and $20 fee with Pakistan so that even a common man could pay obeisance at Kartarpur gurdwara.
