She said the accused, who had multiple cases registered against him under murder- and arms-related offences, was reportedly moving around in the Faridkot area. Acting on a tip-off, the AGTF and CIA Jaito set up a checkpoint. When the accused, riding a motorcycle, was signalled to stop, he opened fire at the police team. His motorcycle slipped as he tried to escape, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire. In the retaliatory action by the police, the accused was injured.

The police have recovered a .30-bore pistol along with four live cartridges from the accused.
