The Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Tuesday arrested Sunil Kumar, Assistant Manager, State Bank of India, red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000.
A VB spokesperson said the accused had been arrested on a complaint of Sukhpal Singh, a resident of Wahabwala village, Abohar. The spokesman said the complainant approached the VB and alleged that the assistant manager had sought a bribe of Rs 12,000 to forward insurance claim of his cow.
After a preliminary inquiry into the complaint, the VB team laid a trap in which the bank official was arrested while taking Rs 10,000 as a first instalment of bribe from the complainant in the presence of two witnesses. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the assistant manager at the VB police station in Ferozepur.
