Minderjeet Yadav, Chairman, monitoring committee of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, has written a letter to the Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, with regard to a recent firing incident in Amritsar.

The incident took place on Sunday when a man grabbed the weapon of a personal security officer assigned to a judge and shot himself. Yadav said the matter required urgent attention.

He said the matter had now been taken up suo motu by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The gravity of the situation has drawn significant attention of the legal fraternity of Punjab, Haryana and UT. “Any development in this regard will be done with the utmost care and caution by all concerned. Given the seriousness of the incident and its far-reaching consequences, it is imperative that this issue should not be taken lightly.”

He further said that the high court was seized of the matter, and as it was under judicial consideration, it would not be appropriate to deliberate upon it any further.
