The state government on Thursday removed senior IAS officer AK Sinha as Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, and Punjab State Power Transmission Corporation. It appointed Dr Basant Garg in his place.

The change of guard in the Power Department comes at a time when the state government is actively contemplating liquidation of the land owned by the PSPCL to generate revenue. All ranks of employee unions in the state power utilities have been opposing the move.

Sinha has not been given any posting. The orders, issued by Chief Secretary KAP Sinha, state that new posting orders of Ajoy Kumar Sinha will be issued later.

Garg has been given the charge of the two corporations and also that of the Power Department Administrative Secretary.
