Karanbir Singh Waraich (24) from Shivdaspur village in Bassi Pathana subdivision of the district has died in a road accident in the US.

His family members said Karanbir went to the US on a study visa three years ago in the hope of a bright future. After completing his studies there, he used to drive a truck-trailer in California.

They said Karanbir was driving a truck on a highway when it hit the road divider and overturned. The truck caught fire and Karanbir did not get a chance to get out of the vehicle.

Karanbir had bought a new car on his birthday a few days ago and was very happy these days, the family said. His grandmother said Karanbir was a sociable man. He used to call home almost every day to enquire about the well-being of the family members, she added.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
