Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s nephew Abhay Singh Sandhu died of COVID-19, a press release from the state government said on Friday.

Abhay Singh Sandhu was the son of Kulbir Singh, the younger brother of the revolutionary leader Bhagat Singh. He died at Fortis Hospital in Mohali, the press release said.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and his cabinet colleague Balbir Singh Sidhu sent their condolences.

 “Saddened to know about the demise of Abhay Singh Sandhu Ji, nephew of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Ji who passed away after a long illness. My heartfelt condolences to his family. We will bear the expenditure incurred on his treatment. May Waheguru grant him eternal peace,” Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said in a tweet.

Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu remembered Sandhu as a social activist who strived hard to spread Bhagat Singh’s ideology.
