This is part of the ruling party’s Maha Jan Sampark Abhiyan to end the scourge of drugs in the state.

As part of this, gram sabhas will be held in 351 villages every day, where the government will motivate people not just to shun drugs, but also remain vigilant and report to police those involved in the illicit drug trade.

The plan is to cover three villages/wards in each of the 117 Vidhan Sabha constituencies every day. The target is to reach 15,000 villages and wards in urban areas.

As part of the ‘War on Drugs’ campaign, the government has not just been initiating criminal action against smugglers but also demolishing their properties. Around 75 drug smugglers have been injured in encounters with police.
