Bike-borne man dies in mishap

The Amargarh police have booked a car driver who hit and dragged a motorcyclist at Bagrian village on the Malerkotla-Patiala road and left him to die.

The victim was identified as Rakesh Verma, a Patiala resident. He succumbed to his injuries when he was being moved to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala.

The police said the suspect was identified as Palakpreet Singh of Dhadogal village, adding that he was booked for negligent driving.

Ramesh Verma, a close relative of the deceased, said the suspect was driving his car recklessly, adding that he hit Rakesh’s motorcycle from behind when he was commuting near Bagrian village cremation ground on Tuesday afternoon.

Ramesh said, “The driver of the car, later identified as Palakpreet Singh of Dhadogal village, was driving his car so carelessly that he dragged severely injured Rakesh Verma for over fifty feet on the road.”

Police officials said the victim was shifted to Amargarh Civil Hospital, from where he was referred to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. He said the victim died on the way to Patiala.

Amargarh SHO Gurpreet Kaur said the police had registered an FIR against Palakpreet Singh for causing a death due to negligent driving on the basis of the statement of a witness, Prince Verma of Patiala. However, no arrest has been made so far.
