To uplift the economic status of the youth belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), the state has decided to disburse loans worth Rs 4.91 crore to 289 youth at low interest rates for self-employment.

Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Sadhu Singh Dharmsot said the Punjab Backward Castes Land Development and Finance Corporation had set a target to provide Rs 1,127.75-lakh loans to 751 youth during 2020-2021.

He said 279 youth had been provided Rs 474.46 lakh as loan on low interest rates till date, and the process to provide this monetary assistance to others was under way. Loans worth Rs 16.8 lakh had been provided to 10 youngsters belonging to the EWS, the minister said.
