The Punjab Congress has condemned the “increasing atrocities” against the Dalit community across the country and held the BJP responsible for these.

Citing incidents, including the brutal murder of a Dalit man in Raebareli, the shoe attack on Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and the suicide by a Dalit IPS officer in Haryana, All-India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary incharge for Delhi Sukhwinder Singh Danny demanded strict implementation of the SC/ST Act.

He also sought an independent investigation into the incidents and comprehensive reforms to eliminate caste-based discrimination.

In a statement, Danny said the three incidents shocked the Dalit community and termed these “clear examples of a systemic caste-based oppression”.

Jalandhar cantonment legislator Pargat Singh termed the atrocities against the Dalits “a deliberate and dangerous conspiracy”.

“The BJP claims of allegiance to (Dalit icon) BR Ambedkar and the Constitution ring hollow in light of its actions. Setting aside constitutional principles has become a routine, and the unchecked assaults on the Dalits point to a worrying scheme,” he said.

He added, “The hate and divisive mindset propagated by the RSS-BJP have poisoned our social fabric. Dalits, Adivasis, backward classes and Muslims today are losing hope for justice.”
