BJP workers in Sriganganagar on Tuesday staged a protest against thrashing of Abohar MLA Arun Narang allegedly by farmers in Malout.

A large number of party workers participated in the protest march that passed through main road and reached the district collectorate.

In a memorandum addressed to the President, the protesters demanded imposition of President’s Rule in Punjab. Narang had gone to Malout on the directions of the state high command to highlight the “failures” of Capt Amarinder Singh government, but he was not allowed to speak to the media, dragged and beaten up by an irate mob under pre-hatched conspiracy that had lowered the status of democracy, the memorandum said. The police failed in protecting an elected representative of the party that was in majority in the Central government, it read.

MLA Balbir Luthra, BJP district president Atma Ram and some councillors also participated in the protest.
