Blood donation camp at Fazilka hospital

A blood donation camp was organised at Fazilka Civil Hospital, where people were urged to donate blood. The camp was dedicated to the 43rd death anniversary of the freedom fighter Lala Jagat Narain.

The Deputy Commissioner, Dr Senu Duggal, lit a lamp to inaugurate the camp and offered flowers to Lala Jagat Narain’s portrait. SSP Varinder Singh Brar and Additional Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar Popli, the officiating Civil Surgeon, Dr Eric, PCMS Association president Dr Rohit Goyal and camp promoter Subodh Nagpal were present at the occasion.

The DC said donating blood saves thousands of lives, adding that every citizen should get their due diligence in social welfare. She said residents should participate in blood donation camps whenever they were organised by the health department. She said the decision to donate blood may save multiple lives as the donated blood was separated into red cells, platelets and plasma. The DC also honoured people who donated blood at the camp.

Others participating in the programme recalled that, born in Wazirabad, Gujranwala district (now in Pakistan), in 1899, Jagat Narain left his education in 1920 at the call of Mahatma Gandhi to join the Non-Cooperation Movement. He was sentenced to two and a-half years in prison. In jail, he acted as Lala Lajpat Rai’s secretary. He also participated in the Satyagraha Movement and was in jail for about nine years on different occasions. After the partition, he settled in Jalandhar and served as a minister in the Punjab Government. He also served the nation as a Member of Parliament. His contribution as founder of a group of vernaculars and fight against militancy will be remembered for centuries.
