Muktsar: A man was killed and four others, including two children, injured after three cars collided with each other near Golden Palace on the Muktsar-Bathinda road near Doda village here on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Jaspreet Singh of Bathinda. The police have started investigation. TNS

Three held with 1 kg heroin

Ferozepur: The police here nabbed three drug peddlers, recovering 1.13 of kg heroin and three mobile phones. While divulging details, SSP Bhupinder Singh said a trap was laid following an input. The accused were identified as Love, alias Love Bhatti, Shiva and Pragat, alias Godhar, all residents of the city. OC

Murder victim cremated

Barnala: Sukhbinder Singh (45), son of Sehna village’s former sarpanch Malkit Kaur, who was shot dead at a shop near the village bus stand on October 4, was cremated on Saturday. The post-mortem was conducted on Friday after the family called off its protest six days after the incident, following an assurance of an impartial probe by the district administration. A large number of people, including some politicians, were present during the cremation. Three accused have already been arrested. tns

Constable recruitment rally

Jalandhar: The Constable Recruitment Rally for both district and armed police began at the Punjab Armed Police grounds in Jalandhar, witnessing participation of 2,400 candidates. Of the total participants, 1,150 were women. The rally will continue till October 17 and is expected to see participation from over 17,000 candidates vying for 1,746 constable posts. TNS
