Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday said around 55,000 young people had been provided jobs by his government. “Previous governments gave miniscule number of jobs to the youth at the fag end of their tenures but ever since my first day in office, I have made sure that the deserving youth get the jobs,” he added speaking during a function to hand over appointment letters to newly appointed people. Cong workers protest against EC in Ropar

Ropar: Congress workers led by party’s district unit president Ashwani Sharma on Wednesday burnt an effigy of the Election Commission (EC). About 200 Congress workers headed toward the Ropar Deputy Commissioner’s office around 11.30 pm, raising slogans against the commission. Some party leaders, including Sharma, were detained by the police and later released. TNS

Use disaster relief fund for flood-hit farmers: Manpreet

Fazilka: Former state finance minister and BJP leader Manpreet Singh Badal on Wednesday demanded that the AAP government make use of nearly Rs 6,000 crore lying in the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) to help farmers who suffered damages due to flooding here. However, he said the amount could only be used after approval from the Centre.
