Hanumangarh: At least 1,000 boxes of liquor and beer being ferried illegally in a truck were seized in Hanumangarh, sources said here on Wednesday. Superintendent of Police Arshad Ali said the truck was carrying liquor from Punjab to Gujarat where liquor had been banned by the state government. Truck driver Hasan Khan (26) of Dudhia in Jaisalmer has been arrested. oc

Students seek rollback of National Education Policy

Muktsar: Members of the Punjab Students Union (PSU) held a protest here on Wednesday demanding the rollback of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. Claiming that the policy would centralise education and harm public institutions, they warned to intensify the agitation if their demand was not met. Protest march against shifting of critical care unit

Muktsar: A protest march by representatives from a cross-section of political parties and public was staged in Muktsar town on Wedneday against the shifting of a proposed 50-bed critical care unit (CCU) from Muktsar to Gidderbaha. The march started from Ghas Mandi Chowk and culminated at Kotkapura Chowk. The CCU is to be built under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PMABHIM). TNS

Legal Services official visits Sangrur jail

Sangrur: Krishan Kumar Singla, Additional District and Sessions Judge-cum-Additional Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority (PSLSA), SAS Nagar, on Wednesday visited District Jail, Sangrur. He also visited prisoners' barracks and interacted with them. The inmates were apprised of their right to file appeal before the apex court. oc
