Ferozepur: Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) sleuths have arrested four drug smugglers and seized 4.255 kg heroin and Rs 1.97 lakh drug money from them. "Those arrested are Swarn Singh (20) of Kamalewala village, Gurwant Singh (30) of Mastewala village, Sandeep Singh (23) of Hajara Ram Singh Wala in Jalalabad and Manpreet Singh (27), alias Money, of Nurpur village in Zira Sadar. They were nabbed near Ali Ke village," said the SSP.

Hawara acquitted in 2005 case under Arms Act

Mohali: A Kharar court acquitted Jagtar Singh Hawara in a 2005 case under the Explosive Substances Act and the Arms Act registered at the Sadar Kharar police station. Hawara attended the proceedings through video-conferencing from the Mandoli jail in Delhi. The defence counsel said neither explosives were seized from him nor was he arrested in the case.

Fazilka couple held for poppy husk smuggling

Abohar: Rajinder Singh of Ghattianwali Bodla village in Fazilka and his wife Seema, reportedly hired against a payment of Rs 4,000 to smuggle poppy husk from Lalgarh in Rajasthan to Fazilka, were arrested in Sriganganagar. SP Gaurav Yadav said 18.5 kg poppy husk was seized from them during checking near the BSF campus road.

17,000 litre raw liquor destroyed

Fazilka: The police and the Excise Department on Monday destroyed over 17,000 litre raw liquor in Abohar, Fazilka and Jalalabad areas. Excise officials and 300 police personnel conducted raids at various places. Premises of 207 suspected liquor smugglers were searched, 13 persons rounded up and 257 litre illicit liquor seized.
