4 of family die in road mishap

Ferozepur: Four members of a family were killed when their Hyundai Creta (HR-0-AL-0361) hit a canter from the rear side near Malsian village in the Zira sub-division on the Amritsar road on Thursday morning. The deceased were identified as Komal (42), wife of Chetan Kumar; her daughter Bhavisha (7); Jitendra Kumar (35); and his wife Dimple (32) — all residents of Hanumangarh, Rajasthan. The canter reportedly suddenly applied brakes, following which the Creta rammed into it with tremendous force, resulting in the mishap. - OC

Leopard rescued

Nangal: A leopard trapped on a tree on the Bhakra road was rescued by the Wildlife Department officials in Nangal on Friday morning. Officials used a tranquiliser gun to sedate and bring down the leopard. The animal was about one and a half year old and had injuries marks on its body. It was later shifted to the Chatbir zoo. TNS

Man kills father

Faridkot: A man allegedly killed his father by hitting him on the head with a wooden stick in Kot Sukhia village of Faridkot. The deceased was identified as 55-year-old Paramjit Singh. The police have registered a case against the accused. According to reports, Pragat Singh had been mentally disturbed for years and was undergoing treatment. On Friday, he started verbally abusing his father. When Paramjit tried to stop him, Pragat allegedly attacked him, leading to his death. OC

Youth dies by suicide

Abohar: After six months of love marriage, a youth allegedly died by suicide. The body of the youth, who had gone missing from his home in Wahabwala village on Tuesday, was found hanging from a tree near the Amarpura-Bhagu link road. His mother Kuljit Kaur, in a statement to the police, said her son Sukhwant Singh had married Sinamdeep Kaur of the same village about six months ago. But after marriage, Sinamdeep Kaur often used to quarrel with him. OC
