Bathinda: After a video went viral on social media allegedly showing some youngsters exchanging drugs near Gol Diggi in Bathinda, the Kotwali police identified those seen in the video and arrested two of them. Those arrested were Mani Kumar and Harjit Singh. Sandeep Singh Bhati, DSP, City-I, Bathinda, said the remaining accused would also be arrested soon.

ASI, Home Guard booked for duping man of Rs 5 lakh

Bathinda: The Nehianwala police have booked an ASI and a Home Guard for allegedly duping a resident of Harraipur village of Rs 5 lakh on the pretext of securing a government job. Complainant Gursahib Singh alleged the trio not only failed to get him the promised job, but also did not return his money. A case under Section 318 of the BNS has been registered against ASI Darshan Singh, Home Guard Vijay Singh and Lakha Ram. All three are currently absconding.

Phone seized from pastor in jail

Mansa: A cellphone and Rs 2,500 were seized from self-styled pastor Bajinder Singh, who is currently serving a life sentence in a rape case, in Mansa jail. The phone and cash were found in Bajinder's possession during a search operation on Tuesday. A case has been registered following a complaint by assistant superintendent of the jail.

Two fraudsters arrested

Ropar: The Ropar police have arrested two persons on the charge of duping people in the name of providing government jobs to them. The suspects claimed they were family members of the Health Minister. Those arrested were identified as Arshvir Singh, alias Arshi, of Azampur village and Tanuj of Jatpur village under the Nurpur Bedi police station.

1.5 kg opium seized

Abohar: A City-1 police team seized 1.5 kg of opium from a pedestrian near the main bus stand here on Tuesday night. The police said the accused was identified as Ganga Ram of Jhalawar Rajasthan. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act. He has been sent to three-day police remand.

Schoolteacher duped of Rs 25,000 in Bathinda

Bathinda: The cybercrime police have booked an unidentified person for allegedly duping the head teacher of Government Primary School, Selbrah village, of Rs 25,000. Complainant Ramanpreet Kaur said she received a phone call on Monday from a man who claimed she had used only half of Rs 50,000 grant and had usurped the remaining amount. He allegedly instructed her to deposit the remaining funds into a specified bank account or face suspension. A case has been registered.
