Protest over ‘custodial’ death in Bathinda
Muktsar: A protest was organised outside the SSP office in Bathinda on Thursday, demanding a judicial inquiry into the alleged custodial death of Narinderdeep Singh of Goniana Mandi in Bathinda on May 23. The protesters also called for a government job for the deceased’s wife.

Amritsar: The CIA staff of the Tarn Taran police have busted a cross-border weapon smuggling module, leading to the seizure of six sophisticated pistols, including four 9 mm Glock pistols, two .30 bore PX5 pistols along with live cartridges, smuggled from Pakistan here on Thursday.
Minister lays stones for projects in Sunam
Sangrur: Cabinet minister Aman Arora on Thursday laid foundation stones for three development projects worth Rs 4.80 crore besides inaugurating a volleyball ground in the Sunam Assembly constituency. The construction of a venders’ zone and a permanent yard at the new grain market in Sunam are the two major projects.
3-year-old dies in roof collapse
Muktsar: A three-year-old girl lost her life, while her brother was injured in a roof-collapse incident at Bhangchari village near here last night. Sources said the roof of their “kutcha” house collapsed following rainfall. The deceased was identified as Jaspreet Kaur, daughter of Judge Singh, a labourer.
Woman dies after surgery in Moga, family lodges protest
Muktsar: The relatives of a 32-year-old woman who died after undergoing surgery at the Civil Hospital, Moga, staged a protest by placing her body on the road outside the hospital on Thursday. Deceased’s mother Bimla Devi accused the doctors of negligence and demanded action against them. The doctors, however, claimed that the woman died at a private hospital.
