Congress MP Manish Tewari on Thursday attacked the Centre in Parliament, saying that even as its tenure was coming to an end, it had failed to fulfil its promise and bring the law on minimum support price (MSP), which it had made to agitating farmers while taking back the farm laws.
“I urge the government that only one-and-a-half days are left of the Budget session and it should bring the promised MSP law. At the peak of the Covid-19, the government had brought the three farm laws, which had forced thousands of farmers to agitate on Delhi’s borders,” Tewari said, while raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha.
Several hundreds of farmers had died during the agitation, due to which the government had to take back the farm laws.
The Centre had promised the farmers that it would ensure the MSP on the basis of a formula devised by MS Swaminathan and had also promised a new law on it. “Nothing has been done on these fronts so far even as the government’s tenure is coming to an end. I urge the government to bring the MSP law by tomorrow,” the Anandpur Sahib MP said.
Patiala MP Preneet Kaur raised the issue of hike in daily wages of Anganwadi and ASHA workers, who, she said, are made to work a lot in various sectors but are not paid well in terms of wages. She urged the government to increase their daily wages.
